NFT, art and metaverse: seminar at Ordine degli Avvocati Firenze

On 10 November 2022, Lawyer Ilaria Feriti, Lawyer Maria Luisa Milanesi and Ms. Giulia Mugnaini, Head of our Trademark Department, will be speakers in a seminar taking place at Florence Bar Association (Ordine degli Avvocati di Firenze), entitled “NFT, art and law in the metaverse”.

Lawyer Laura Turini, promoting the seminar, will moderate and coordinate the lectures.

NFT and the art market

It is estimated that 12% of the world art market, in 2021, concerned NFT purchases but the need to know and have guarantees grows.

The trust can only come from the law, by the hands of jurists which must know how to read the dynamics of this new tool, interpret smart contracts and help artists, gallerists and buyers to suitably set the technological instruments.

The goal of this seminar is to bring jurists and operators closer to the NFTs world, seen from the legal point of view.

Legal issues relating to copyright will be explored, trying to clarify what the copyright law provides for. Contracts connected to the creation and sale of NFTs will be examined, highlighting the challenges. Lastly, we will talk about Metaverse and how the perspectives of trademarks and designs’ owners change.

Professor Mario Taddei will also be present and will show how virtual reality works, how an NFT is created and how it is made. A practical and realistic approach, essential to understand every legal phenomenon.
